Imagine a surgeon doing a heart transplant after reading about it on Medium for 5 minutes. Wouldn't want to be on his operating table, right?
Or think of an airline pilot flying an A380 by watching a YouTube video. I'd probably pass on flying with that guy.
But that's what we do when we program. We quickly skim through documentation and expect everything to work. We then get frustrated when it doesn't.
But the fact that programming is forgiving shouldn't stop us from doing our best. Spending that extra 30 seconds reading the Javadoc might just make the difference between substandard and excellent.
